What is the role of an Order Fulfillment Associate?

Hello everyone, I’m relocating to Milwaukee soon, and a friend recommended I consider applying for the Order Fulfillment Associate position at Home Depot. I have no prior experience with this company, but I recently finished working a part-time order fulfillment role at a local printing business. I would like to understand how the job at Home Depot compares to my previous experience.

At my former job, my responsibilities involved selecting items from shelves and preparing them for shipping without any customer interaction. Once packed, I would leave the orders in a designated location, as the shipping team was responsible for loading them onto delivery trucks.

I realize that I may be assigned to various roles, but I’m hoping to be placed directly in an Order Fulfillment Associate position due to my past experiences.

In the context of Home Depot, the role of an Order Fulfillment Associate primarily focuses on picking and packing orders for both in-store pickup and home delivery. It’s fairly comparable to your previous job, as you’d be selecting merchandise from the shelves based on customers’ online orders. There’s usually more emphasis on ensuring order accuracy, handling product returns, and managing inventory discrepancies. Home Depot might occasionally require associates in this role to assist in restocking shelves when needed. Overall, the role doesn’t typically involve customer interaction, similar to your past position, but you will play a key role in ensuring customers receive their orders efficiently and accurately.
