Warning: Beware of fake e-commerce investment schemes in Asia

I want to share my experience with a scam I recently encountered. I met someone online who seemed legit. He said he was a doctor from Poland working in the UK. We video chatted and everything looked real. Then he told me about making money through dropshipping.

He showed me his account on a site that looked like a popular e-commerce platform. It seemed profitable so I considered investing. But it turned out to be a trick!

Guys, don’t fall for these fake investment schemes. They use copycat websites and crypto payments to avoid detection. They target people online and try to build trust before asking for money. It’s a type of romance scam mixed with fake business opportunities.

Stay safe and never invest money with someone you only know from the internet. These scammers are ruthless and have fooled many people. Always be cautious with online ‘opportunities’ that sound too good to be true.

Thanks for sharing your experience. These scams are getting more sophisticated by the day. I work in cybersecurity and we’re seeing a surge in these hybrid romance-investment frauds, especially targeting lonely professionals. The video chat element is particularly concerning - some scammers are using deepfake tech to appear as different people. A good rule of thumb is to treat any unsolicited investment opportunity with extreme skepticism, no matter how legitimate it seems. Always do your own research through official channels and consult a financial advisor before putting money into anything. It’s unfortunate, but in today’s digital world, a healthy dose of paranoia can save you from financial ruin.

Yea, these scams r gettin crazy. I got hit by somthin similar last year. Guy said he was a forex trader, showed me fake profits n everything. Lost 2k before realizing it was bs.

we gotta spread the word bout this stuff. maybe make a website or smthin to warn ppl? dunno, just thinking out loud here

Wow, that’s a scary experience you had there, DashingDog! I’m so glad you caught on before losing any money. These scammers are getting craftier by the minute, aren’t they?

I’m curious, did you notice any red flags early on that maybe didn’t seem so obvious at the time? Like, did the ‘doctor’ ever say anything that seemed a bit off? It’d be super helpful to know what to look out for.

Also, I wonder how many people fall for these scams without ever reporting them. Do you think there’s a way we could spread awareness more effectively? Maybe we need some kind of viral campaign or something to reach more potential victims.

Has anyone else here had a close call with an online scam? It’d be interesting to hear other experiences and how people caught on. The more we share, the safer we all are, right?
