Need advice: New to Google Ads for my online store

Hey everyone,

I’m in a bit of a pickle with my Google Ads setup. My online store has been live for about 2 months, and I’ve been running ads for the last 4 weeks. Here’s the deal:

At first, I had my conversion goals set to track everything under the sun (purchases, cart adds, checkout starts, page views, you name it). rookie mistake, right?

When I finally wised up and changed it to track only purchases, things went south. My ad performance took a nosedive, and I’m burning through cash faster than before, even though I lowered my budget.

Now I’m scratching my head, wondering what to do next. Should I:

  1. Start fresh with new campaigns using the purchase-only goal?
  2. Stick it out with the current setup and give it about a week to sort itself out?

Any thoughts from the Google Ads veterans out there? I’m all ears!

Starting fresh can be tempting, but I’d advise against it. Your current campaigns have accumulated valuable data, even with the initial tracking issues. Instead, maintain your current setup with the purchase-only goal for at least two weeks. This allows Google’s algorithm to recalibrate and optimize based on the new conversion metric. During this period, closely monitor your key performance indicators, particularly ROAS and CPA. If you notice persistent underperformance after this adjustment period, consider gradually reducing bids on poor-performing keywords or ad groups rather than scrapping everything. Remember, Google Ads often requires patience and incremental optimizations for best results.

hey rollingthunder, i’ve been in ur shoes. might be best to wait on the current setup for a week, let google’s system adjust. keep an eye on cpa and adjust bids if needed. sometimes patience reveals hidden trends, trust th proces.

Hey RollingThunder, sounds like you’re in a bit of a pickle! I’ve been there too, and it can be frustrating. Have you considered a hybrid approach? Maybe keep your current campaigns running, but create a small test campaign with the purchase-only goal? That way you can compare performance side by side without risking everything.

What kind of products are you selling, by the way? Sometimes certain niches take longer to gain traction. Oh, and have you looked into your search terms report? There might be some golden nuggets hiding in there that could help you optimize.

Curious to hear what you decide to do! Keep us posted on how it goes, yeah?
