Multi-brand e-commerce platform: JBoss Portal vs alternatives

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to set up multiple e-commerce sites with different brands and unique URLs, but all running on one system. I’ve checked out DotNetNuke (DNN) and JBoss Portal, plus the new GateIn thing that JBoss and eXo made together.

JBoss looks way better than DNN, which seems a bit clunky. But I can’t find much about using JBoss for online stores. Has anyone tried JBoss Portal or GateIn for branded sites or selling stuff? What was it like?

Oh, and budget is tight, so cost matters. Any thoughts?

While JBoss Portal and GateIn have their merits, they’re not specifically tailored for e-commerce. For your multi-brand setup, I’d recommend looking into Shopify Plus. It’s designed for managing multiple stores from a single backend, which aligns perfectly with your needs. The platform is robust, scalable, and offers extensive customization options. Although it’s not free, the time and resources you’ll save in development and maintenance could offset the cost. I’ve implemented it for several clients, and the results have been impressive in terms of performance and ease of management. Consider it if you want a balance between functionality and cost-effectiveness for your multi-brand e-commerce venture.

Hey Iris85! Have you looked into PrestaShop? It’s another open-source option that might fit the bill for your multi-brand setup. I’ve used it for a couple of projects, and it’s pretty flexible for handling multiple shops. Plus, it’s free to use, which could be a big win for your budget constraints.

What kind of products are you planning to sell across your different brands? I’m curious because that could impact which platform would work best for you. Some systems handle digital products better, while others are great for physical goods.

Also, how tech-savvy are you or your team? JBoss and GateIn might require more technical know-how compared to some of the more user-friendly e-commerce platforms out there. What’s your comfort level with diving into the more technical side of things?

hey iris85, have u considered magento? its open-source and great for multi-brand setups. i used it for a client last year and it handled multiple stores like a champ. plus, the community edition is free, so it won’t break the bank. might be worth checkin out if youre on a tight budget.
