I started playing Subnautica recently and find the inventory system extremely tedious with no stacking features. Is this an intentional design choice or will it change?
hey, im not sure but invetory stacking seems intenionally left out to keep challenge high in subnautica. no updates mention changes so far, so i guess it won’t be coming back soon.
Subnautica’s inventory system presents a genuine challenge that seems to be a deliberate design choice. In my experience, managing limited space forces the player to weigh the importance of each item carefully, which adds tension to the survival aspect of the game. As with many design decisions in survival games, restrictions in inventory stacking encourage strategic planning and prioritization. I have not encountered any credible information suggesting that official inventory stacking will be implemented in future updates, so for now, it continues to be a fundamental part of the gameplay experience.
Hey Jade72 and everyone! I’ve been thinking about this too—there’s a definite challenge to juggling all your items without stacking. For me, it felt like the game was nudging you toward careful management, almost like it’s part of the survival experience. But now I wonder: could it be a design decision to keep the tension and realism high, even though it can get really frustrating at times? I’ve heard some chatter about mods that try to bring stacking back, but nothing official has popped up so far. What do you all think—does the lack of stacking add an extra layer of immersion, or would it be a welcome change? Anyone tried any mods or have theories on whether the devs might revisit this in a future update?
