What are the challenges of establishing a successful ecommerce venture in 2024/25?

My friend and I, both around 30 years old, are tired of our corporate careers and are considering launching our own enterprise. After extensive brainstorming, we believe that starting an ecommerce business is our most feasible option. Living in Switzerland means we face significant living expenses, with our current combined income of approximately 8,000 CHF per month. To leave our jobs and focus fully on the business, we aim for a minimum net monthly profit of 15,000 CHF. Therefore, I am curious about how achievable this goal is and what kind of time frame we might expect to reach a monthly revenue of 150,000 CHF, assuming a 10% profit margin. How realistic is this pursuit?

Hey Sam! Wow, that’s a brave move you and your friend are considering! I’m genuinely curious about which product categories you’re looking to dive into? Switzerland’s market is pretty unique in its own right, right? Balancing high living costs while building an ecommerce platform is surely ambitious.

Have you looked into tapping into the local fashion or tech gadgets niche given Switzerland’s tech-savvy populace? Or maybe there’s a speciality product y’all passionate about? I’m just pondering how diversifying products vs. focusing on a niche could impact growth toward that goal of yours. And, have you thought about strategies to differentiate yourself from larger players like Amazon when starting out? I wonder how customer loyalty can be cultivated despite heavy competition. Potential collaborations with Swiss brands or creatives could also be an interesting way to leverage local appeal!

Would love to hear more about your plans and ideas!
