Affordable Bilingual Online Store Solution

Hey everyone! I’m planning to set up a mid-sized online shop with about 200 products. The tricky part is I need it to work in both French and English. I’ve played around with WordPress using WPLM and Shopp plugins but I’m not totally sold.

I’m wondering if anyone knows a solid e-commerce platform that handles multiple languages well and won’t break the bank? Ideally under $200 or even free if possible. I’m okay with basic PHP, CSS, and HTML but I’d rather not dive too deep into tweaking complex code.

Has anyone found a user-friendly solution that fits the bill? I’d love to hear about your experiences or recommendations for a reliable bilingual e-commerce setup. Thanks in advance for any tips!

I’d recommend looking into OpenCart. It’s a free, open-source e-commerce platform that has built-in multi-language support. I’ve used it for a client’s bilingual store and it handled about 250 products without a hitch. The admin panel is intuitive, and you can manage translations easily. There’s a good selection of free and paid themes, plus it’s extendable with plugins if you need more features. With your basic coding skills, you should be able to make minor customizations without much trouble. The community is also quite helpful if you run into any issues.

have u checked out prestashop? Its free and has good multilingual support. I used it for my small business and it handles bout 150 products easily. The interface is pretty straightforward, and you can customize it with basic coding skills. Plus, theres lots of free themes n plugins available. might be worth a look for ur needs!

Hey there, ExploringAtom! Have you looked into Shopify yet? I’m curious about your thoughts on it.

I’ve heard good things about their multi-language capabilities, especially with apps like Langify. It might be a bit pricier than you hoped (their basic plan is about $29/month), but it could save you loads of time and headaches in the long run.

What’s your timeline for getting this store up and running? And have you considered how you’ll handle currency conversion between English and French markets?

I’d love to hear more about your products too - what kind of stuff are you selling? Maybe there’s a niche solution that would work better for your specific needs.

Keep us posted on what you decide! It’s always interesting to see how these bilingual stores turn out.
